A father in the Philippines bravely fought a crocodile which had attacked his 12-year-old son and bit its leg until it let go of the boy.
Diego Abulhasan and his younger brother were swimming in a river around 100 yards away from the family home in Balabac town, Palawan region when a crocodile launched a ferocious attack and dragged Diego underwater. The boys' father, Tejada Abdulhasan, heard cries for help and ran towards the river with a plank of wood.
Abdulhasan jumped into the river and started battering the huge crocodile with the plank. He punched its snout repeatedly to fend off the attack but was unable to free his son from its grips.
That's when Abulhasan grabbed the animal's leg and started biting several times 'like a Rottweiler'. Soon the crocodile released the boy and swam away in the murky water. Diego was rushed to a hospital where he spent two nights and was released with several scars but no lasting serious injuries.
"There was so much adrenaline in my body I had no time to think. I was hitting the crocodile and it would not release my boy. I was wrestling the crocodile and we looked in each other in the eyes," Abdulhasan was quoted as saying in Daily Mail. Adding that he did not hesitate to jump into the river, the father said, "I had the idea to bite him. I grabbed his leg and just bit as hard as I could like a Rottweiler dog."
While Superintendent, Socrates Faltado, spokesman from the MIMAROPA (Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional police said, "Fortunately and due to the bravery of his father, the victim did not drown and only suffered wounds from crocodile bites." He added investigations revealed that the crocodile suddenly snapped the boy's left arm and pulled him into the deeper area. "It dragged his body causing several cuts in the different parts of his body. His father came to his rescue and bit the crocodile continuously eventually helped free the boy from the crocodile's jaws," Faltado added.
