Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has said the terms of reference (TORs) announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the judicial commission he has proposed for investigation of the allegations levelled against his family in the Panama leaks were aimed at dividing the opposition.
"These TORs have been rejected by all opposition parties because these were designed to hide facts instead of genuinely ensuring impartial probe into the accusations levelled against his family in the Panama leaks," he said while speaking at a sit-in his party organised in Lahore on Sunday evening.
The JI chief said: " The prime minister has tried to divide the opposition by distorting facts," Sirajul Haq said adding that Sharif wants to prolong probe and gain time to defuse the crisis.
He announced that his party will launch a countrywide anti-corruption campaign from May 1 and presented himself for accountability in the wake of Panama Papers controversy and corruption accusations against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's family.
"I present myself and my team for accountability as I begin the fight against corruption from my own self," he said.
"Only JI can save Pakistan from the rampant corruption because we do not have any allegations or stigma of corruption against us," Sirajul Haq added.
Terming it as economic terrorism, he urged people who had gathered in the rally to raise their voice against growing corruption in the corridors of power.
"The rulers have not only failed us, they have destroyed the future of coming generations of this country."
