At least two people were killed and 70 injured after a tanker truck carrying inflammable material exploded on a highway overpass in Bologna, Italy.
The massive explosion occurred on Monday reportedly after a traffic accident which led to a partial collapse of the raised roadway, according to the Daily Mail.
Italian police said that people were reportedly hit by flying glass as windows shattered in nearby buildings while many suffered severe burns. Officials did not immediately know what kind of explosives were in the tanker, but news agency ANSA said it was carrying liquefied petroleum gas.
Videos and aerial photos of the accident show blazing flames and thick black smoke filling the air and a hole in the raised highway next to the tanker.
Italian television Sky TG24 said the flames fell to the lower level, setting off secondary explosions in a car lot below.
It took three hours for firefighters to douse the massive flames on the interchange that connects two major highways linking northern Italy with the Adriatic coast, a popular summer destination.
