A three-year-old boy, from Brazil, displayed bravery and maintained his calm when he saved his friend from drowning in a swimming pool.
Arthur de Oliveira was captured on a home surveillance camera reaching out to save his friend, also three, and grabbing his hand after he fell into the pool.
He received a surprise visit by the 29th Military Police Battalion and was presented with a basket of sweets and a new basketball. Arthur was also awarded a certificate and a trophy that said, 'From a hero to a hero'.
The boy's heroic deed went viral after the footage was shared on social media by his mother, Poliana Console de Oliveira, reported Daily Mail. The incident took place in Itaperuna, Rio de Janeiro, when the boy, son of a local caretaker, made his way to the pool and fell into it while reaching for an inflatable pool toy.
The boy can be seen struggling to keep his head above water while his friend Arthur looks around for help. Not finding anyone in the vicinity, Arthur decides to grab his friend and pull him out of the pool, local news website G1 reported.
Sharing the footage on Facebook, Arthur's mother wrote: 'It was 30 seconds of carelessness, the caretaker's son left the house alone, without telling his mother... In my heart I just have gratitude for the life of Arthur's friend and I am proud of my son's courageous, quick and loving attitude'.
The proud mother added, "When I arrived, Arthur said he saved his little friend. I told him 'my son, you can't, you have to call mommy', and he said that if he called someone, his friend would die."
