Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM ) chief Altaf Hussain has announced to go on 'hunger unto death' in a bid to register a strong protest against what he calls 'extrajudicial killings and unlawful arrests of his party workers'.
In a statement issued from London, he said that he had vowed to not bow down before the 'oppressors'. Therefore, he added that he will fulfil his promise by sacrificing his life.
The MQM chief said that he will start his hunger strike as soon as he gets an approval from the local administration in London.
The announcement comes days after a Rangers' raid on MQM headquarters Nine-Zero in Karachi, in which four party leaders including Qamar Mansoor and Rabita committee in charge Kaiful Wara were detained and taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Kaif was later released after satisfying the Rangers officials.
Meanwhile, All Karachi Tajir Ittehad (United Businessmen Front) President Attiq Mir has said that for the first time in about a decade Karachi remained peaceful during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr, thanks to the Rangers.
Opposing the demand for withdrawal of the Rangers as being pressed by Altaf Hussain, Mir welcomed Sindh government's decision to extend Rangers' stay in Karachi for one more year.
He said the withdrawal of Rangers will again plunge the city into violence.
Mir disclosed that because of peace during Ramadan and Eid days, the traders did a roaring business of more than Rs70 billion breaking a 10-year record.
