Confession: I don't look forward to the chilly season. That despite hailing from Delhi where winter has a different intensity altogether. If covering yourself with layers and layers of warm clothing wasn't enough, the skin usually tends to go extremely dry. And if you have a dry skin like mine, rest assured it'd also get flaky. My experiments with the choicest face oils and 'ultra'-moisturising creams have failed to yield the 'fab' results.
I was reading up on effective treatments for dry skin, when I heard about the SkinCeuticals Glow and Radiance Facial from Aesthetics International popped up. Given the onslaught of winter and exposure to generous amounts of dust I had been exposed to at a Desert Safari recently, I decided to give the treatment a try.
My therapist Lisa carefully examined by skin and concluded that I had to double my water intake in order to combat the impact of dry weather. Explaining the treatment, she helpfully informed me that Vitamin C was the real star of the treatment that otherwise followed the standard cleanse-exfoliate-apply pack routine. Would it make any visible impact? Moreover, how long would it last? To my obvious questions, Lisa's answer was simple: "Wait and watch!"
Therapy time
After removing the makeup, Lisa massaged my face briefly before applying a Vitamin C mask. I could feel a slight tingling sensation, but she assured me this was normal. Having kept it on my face for 15 minutes (it boosts collagen production, I was told), she removed the mask only to apply yet another one - Vitamin B5. Known for its hydrating properties, the B5 mask did feel refreshing. She followed it up with the application of a hyaluronic acid cream. Don't let the name frighten you. Apparently, our skin has it already but as one ages, as I have, the skin begins to lose it. The whole purpose of the cream is to firm the skin after a thorough detox.
What we loved...
I liked how the approach to skincare was more academic. There was no promise of an 'instant' glow. The focus is on treatments that heal the skin, and the experts go out of their way to provide a detailed consultation. Chances are you will come out learning more about your skin and its needs!
What we didn't...
For a rejuvenating treatment such as this one, I would have preferred a more tranquil ambience. In today's day and age, sitting down for a facial is not just about getting a beauty fix, but also letting yourself a bit loose. Perhaps some relaxing music would be nice.
