It's impossible to go to Soul Wellness & Spa - previously known as Shine Spa - without being impressed. Firstly, it's located on the 52nd floor of Sheraton Grand Hotel and offers some gorgeous views of Sheikh Zayed Road and the Dubai World Trade Centre. Secondly, it encompasses the entire floor, and so the elevator doors open directly into the spa.
The space, swathed in shades of turquoise and white, is modern and yet relaxing. One can see efforts have been made to ensure it's not just a place for the body, but also the mind. Bookshelves are stocked with motivational titles and the waiting area showcases mandala art. Soul Wellness & Spa has also introduced optional 10-minute meditation experiences through headsets after the treatments. Not to mention poolside yoga classes, held on the property's 54th floor. Now, I'm not really into yoga, but I wouldn't mind going for that view.
Of course, the spa has a number of treatments and its facilities are as gorgeous as the views it offers. I had opted for their Arabian Scrub, and although the treatment left me refreshed, it wasn't the highlight of the day. That honour would go to the relaxation room where you can have a cup of cinnamon tea, soak in the view and listen as your headset tells you to 'breathe deeply and enjoy the moment'.
Therapy time
After changing into my spa gear, my helpful therapist led me to a minimalist and dimly-lit treatment room. Warm oil was first generously sprinkled over my hands, legs and back before she took to exfoliating the skin with a coffee and sugar concoction, which, she later informed me, is locally-produced. Being scrubbed is seldom a relaxing experience but you can always feel the after-effects almost immediately. The scrub was left on my body for 10 minutes and a quick shower later, my skin felt silky smooth. My therapist then gently massaged my skin with a Vitamin C moisturiser. Even hours after I left, I could smell the coffee! Points for that.
What we loved...
The spa as a whole is a lovely place to relax and let go of all worries. Whether it's the soothing interiors, the gorgeous jacuzzi, the steam room and sauna, or the art on the wall, everything is exquisite. The service is friendly and we even loved the cool hibiscus welcome drink they offered.
What we didn't...
I would be nitpicking to find any fault with the facilities - everything was incredible. The moisturiser used during the treatment didn't feel or smell too unique. Also, would have loved it if the curtains to the treatment room were left open to catch the view.
