"What will they say about you?" It's a question commonly asked of young girls growing up in the Middle East, when they attempt to do something outside of 'conventional' boundaries.
Well, Nike has a take on that. Last week, the sports brand released an inspirational film, featuring professional female athletes from the Arab region - including a parkour trainer, figure skater, pop singer, fencer and boxer - all of whom are encouraging women to pursue their dreams. And it is the talk of the town.
"This phrase, it's every little girl's nightmare growing up! But I've learned that if you genuinely want to do something amazing, you can't be afraid of hearing this phrase. Don't be afraid of your own greatness," says UAE parkour athlete Amal Murad.
Kids, this is your time
Why watch all those talent shows when you can be part of one? Kids HQ is launching a talent contest for little stars - so this could very well be your kid's time to shine!
From wannabe pop stars, yo-yo pros, magicians, dancers, poets and karate kids to everything in between, all are welcome. Auditions will take place every Monday and Wednesday between February 26 and March 12, from 4-6pm at Kids HQ, Umm Suqeim Street. Semi-finalists will be announced on March 13, and 10 lucky kids will be selected for the finals on April 15.

A whole new world
The 'Wheel of Life' is one of celebrated Lebanese artist Joëlle A Kurdy's most notable bodies of work - and selected pieces from the series are showing for the first time right here in Dubai.
Each piece is designed to hang together on a single thread, offering inventive ways of looking at a new world. Each incorporates an eclectic selection of vintage photographs, books and magazines old and new, to examine the relationship between the current day and timelessness.
Coinciding with Art Week Dubai, the show will be on at NK Luxury Consultancy at Dubai's Design District between March 12-18.
Visit www.joellekurdy.com for more info.
Indulge yourself
Numaish is not a new name on the Dubai lifestyle exhibition scene. After 15 shows in the city, the brand is now launching a new concept called the Numaish Luxury Show - a mélange of 25 of the most celebrated names in fashion apparel and jewellery.
The show, curated by celebrity stylist Eshaa Amiin - who has styled big names like Sridevi, Lara Dutta and Sania Mirza in the past - will take place on February 25 at Taj Dubai. Offering a mix of ethnic and Western fashion, visitors can also avail of interactions with designers and even get the chance to be styled by Eshaa herself (by appointment only). Entry is free and valet parking is available.
