A woman, who was caught by Dubai Police officers shortly before engaging in paid sex, was sentenced to six months in jail at a court here on Monday.
The 36-year-old Pakistani woman, an accountant, was caught by Dubai Police officers in a hotel room shortly after she met a police informant and collected Dh2,000 from him for sex, according to public prosecution records.
The Court of First Instance found the woman guilty of prostitution and ordered her deportation after completing her jail term.
The case dates back to August 7 in Naif area.
During the investigation, a policeman said a source had informed them that the defendant was working in prostitution.
"We set up a task force to verify that information. We got a public prosecution warrant for the search and arrest. We also arranged for a location to catch her red-handed," the officer said.
The same source contacted the woman and agreed that they would have sex for Dh2,000. "A driver dropped her off at the hotel and waited for her outside. We raided the room shortly after she got inside. A policewoman told her to put her clothes on and to hand over the cash she just collected. The defendant then took it out of her purse," he said.
Confessing to the crime, the woman "admitted she had done it several times before for different amounts of cash", the officer told the prosecutor.
The accused reportedly said she had been working as a prostitute for three months prior to her arrest and had sex with about nine men for amounts ranging Dh400 and Dh500, at several hotels in Dubai.
The defendant can appeal the verdict within 15 days from the issuance date.
