Waiting times at the Dubai Health Authority's dental centres will be cut down to 20 minutes with a new "hybrid" appointment booking model, it was announced on Sunday (July 7). Patients can book appointments through the DHA call centre (800342) or its medical records platform.
Previously, patients just had the option to walk in to facilities and wait for hours for their turn. Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of primary healthcare sector, said the authority will begin implementing the system on July 21.
She said it will allow patients to schedule their appointments and choose their preferred dentist. Meanwhile, emergency cases will be accepted during the clinics' working hours from 7.30am to 9.30pm.
Dr Hamda Mismar, director of dental services, said the new model will have a "positive impact" on patients as it will save time.
Through the new system, the patient will be able to schedule a follow-up through three methods: The doctor himself can schedule it based on the treatment plan; the patient can schedule one via the call centre; or the patient can access the medical records platform.
"The model is a scheduling system that aims to enhance patient care service through incorporating both appointment and walk-in patients in the General Dentistry and Dental Hygiene Clinics at DHA primary health care centres," the authority said.
