For the second consecutive year, the United Arab Emirates took top place in the Middle East and North Africa for the World Justice Project's (WJP) Rule of Law Index.
The UAE has achieved 0.67 (minimum 0, maximum 1), while Denmark came first in the global ranking with 0.87.
The UAE succeeded in acquiring the top position for adhering to security measures; effective control over crimes; above all civil conflict is effectively limited and people do not resort to violence to redress personal grievances.
In this category, the UAE scored 0.91, followed by absence of governmental corruption 0.82, and effective criminal justice 0.77. The Index' factor 8 evaluates the criminal justice system, which measures the correctional system's effectiveness in reducing criminal behavior. Other factors include constraints on government powers; regulatory enforcement; open government; civil justice; and fundamental rights.
The WJP an independent, non-profit, international multidisciplinary organisation, which periodically releases the annual Rule of Law Index.
The index provides original, impartial data to measure how the rule of law is experienced in practical, everyday situations around the world. Performance is assessed using several indicators across eight categories. - Wam
