A number of football fans were taken into custody after a mass brawl erupted during an Adnoc Pro League match on Friday, the Sharjah Police said.
Those involved in the fight were arrested and released soon after an interrogation, the authorities said. No charges have been filed.
The two teams competing were Sharjah and Khor Fakkan, and the latter won the match 1-0.
It was a last-gasp winner by Khor Fakkan as their Portuguese winger Aylton Filipe scored from a sharp header in 89 minutes of the match.
Sharjah tried to find an equaliser but a long-range effort from Brazilian midfielder Caio Lucas was kept out by Khorfakkan's goalkeeper, which was cheered by hundreds of home fans at the Saqr bin Mohammad al Qassimi Stadium.
The result was an unexpected fifth win of the season for Khorfakkan from their 17 matches.
Rebranded in 2017, Khor Fakkan were promoted to the league only in 2019. They have traditionally remained in the bottom half of the points table and tasted little success against big boys of the 14-team league.
Sharjah are one of the top-flight teams in the league and finished second last season. With this upset win, Khor Fakkan jumped to 10th spot with 19 points, while Sharjah are fourth with 34 points.
The brawl broke out in public following a nervy finish to the match.
