The mortal remains of four-year-old Vyshnav Krishnadas, who died of leukaemia in Al Ain last Friday, were sent to India on board the Cochin flight that took off from Dubai on Saturday.
The boy's parents, Krishnadas and Divya, also accompanied the body of their son, said Neeraj Agarwal, consul for Press at the Indian consulate.
"It is a huge relief for the family. They have no words to thank everyone who supported and stood with them throughout this crisis," a close relative told Khaleej Times.
Vyshnav died of leukaemia on Friday at Al Tawam hospital in Al Ain, 15 days after he was diagnosed. His body was kept in the mortuary as his parents looked for ways to repatriate the body on the special flights taking stranded Indians home.
"They wanted to cremate him in Kerala with all the religious rites. That wish is fulfilled thanks to the efforts of many people," said Sreejith, a social worker who closely worked on the case.
"The ministry of external affairs, Indian embassy, and Indian consulate worked really hard to help the family. A special mention is needed for BJP MP Suresh Gopi, who intervened on the family's behalf and spoke with the Karnataka government and made an exception for the family to land in Mangalore earlier," he said.
