Sharjah Police have referred an Asian driver to traffic prosecution for committing 132 violations which resulted in fines of Dh1,193,840.
Major Mohammad Abdurrahman bin Qasmul, head of Wasit Comprehensive Police Station, said the Anjad Traffic Patrols arrested an Asian driver who committed a number of serious violations and failed to pay the fines on time.
He pointed out that the violations registered against the number plate of his vehicle amounted to Dh214,730, and violations registered on his driver's licence reached Dh879,110.
Most of the violations committed by the driver included using the vehicle to provide lift services for passengers. He was slapped with a fine which reached up to Dh115,000,000 issued by the Roads and Transport Authority in Sharjah.
The fine for a driver caught offering illegal car lifting services is Dh5,000 and it would be doubled to Dh10,000 in case of repeat violations. Such violation is recorded on the driver's licence. He also committed other traffic offences such as speeding, parking in a prohibited place, and non-compliance with the mandatory road. The non-compliance to the traffic rules caused the increase in the number of violations which resulted in hefty fines.
Abdurrahman bin Qasmul pointed out that Article 75 of the amended traffic law stipulates that if the vehicle is used for a purpose other than the intended one, a fine of Dh3,000 and 4 black points are added to the driver's record. Article 76 of the same law states that the use of the vehicle in transporting passengers without a license invites a fine of Dh3,000 and 24 black points and 30 days of vehicle confiscation is imposed.
