Carrying the theme, "Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All," a gathering for peace with prayer for humanity was held in Dubai on Thursday, ahead of the International Day of Peace on September 21.
The celebration, aimed at showcasing the UAE's spirit of togetherness and to promote a global initiative on respect, safety and dignity for everyone, was held at Gurudwara Dubai in Jebel Ali, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Minister of State for Tolerance in the UAE.
Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of State for Tolerance, who was the chief guest at the event, said: "Here in UAE, we believe that, tolerance is the backbone of all civilizations, religions and cultures. In its multi-cultural approach, the UAE is the home for more than 200 different nationalities living and sharing one common existence peacefully and securely. The UAE believes that, peoples and nations need to keep connecting, as a key requisite to ensure the stability and prosperity of the world."
Speaking to an audience of various faiths, cultures, nationalites and ages, Sheikha Lubna added: "This (event) represents a great opportunity for us to exchange ideas and experiences. The theme for 2017 is together for peace, respect, safety and dignity for all."
"I believe that we all have a responsibility to promote tolerance, coexistence, harmony, peace, respect, safety and dignity. We all have to go hand in hand to protect these noble values. I believe that, our mission together is to incubate tolerance, peace, respect, safety and dignity as fundamental universal values and practice nurture constructive thinking, promote common coexistence and accepting the diversity of each other," she underlined.
Frode Mauring, UN resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative for UAE, Oman and Qatar; and Indian ambassador Navdeep Singh Suri also graced the occasion, attended by 32 faith leaders, 20 diplomats from various countries and senior students from various schools in Dubai.
