More than 700 people have benefited from the specialised training programmes on voluntary humanitarian work conducted by the UAE Red Crescent during the first half of 2017.
The UAE Red Crescent said it has carried out 22 lectures in various areas of volunteering in a number of public universities and government institutions so as to promote the culture and instill the value of voluntary work among youth and public employees as part of the 'Year of Giving'. The training programmes for the 729 volunteers including men and women were part of the authority's operational and management programme.
Rashid Mohammed Al Khatibi Al Kaabi, director of volunteers department at the UAE Red Crescent, said: "The training of students is part of the specific objectives and strategies within the framework of the department's operations plan and it's a fundamental pillar of the department."
Al Kaabi pointed out that the authority has trained cadres of highly qualified and distinguished volunteers in many fields. "We have worked to establish community partnerships with several institutions to train our cadres associated with the Red Crescent," he said.
Al Kaabi noted that teams from the student's crescent are formed at the beginning of each academic year to train students about the importance and values of doing voluntary work.
He explained that the training programmes instills the value of voluntary work and deepens the loyalty and belonging of the homeland in the students' hearts, through actual practice and doing voluntary working hours within the school community, the local community and service institutions for people with special needs, autism, elderly people, patients in hospitals, orphans, needy families, holding forums for students, professionals and directing the social services.
Students area also taught about the principle of social solidarity through executing a large number of charitable and humanitarian projects such as Eid clothing for the local orphans, Meer Ramadan for needy families, digging wells, building mosques, charitable Waqf, building classrooms.
Annually, the students' crescent department prepares a work guidance booklet, circulates it and distributes it with the cooperation of the student counseling department at the Ministry of Education and social service divisions within the educational areas, and directing educational and social service and specialists within the UAE.
