The Sharjah Police have intensified the crackdown of unlicensed bikers delivering food or grocery stuff. The inspections are targeted at bikes with modified engines that produce noises which disturb residents.
Brig Ahmed bin Darwish, director of the police department in the central region, said the police will continue campaigns to reduce accidents and traffic violations caused by reckless bikers.
The crackdown is part of the police efforts to curb the illegal practices and negative phenomena that affect peaceful atmosphere for residents and citizens in the emirate.
"The crackdown was launched in response to the complaints from residents about motorcycles driven by reckless teenagers in the streets and residential districts," said Brig Darwish.
He said the Sharjah Police is keen to carry out initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing the number of deaths by upgrading the traffic system, in line with the objectives of the Sharjah Police and the Ministry of Interior's strategy to make roads safer.
He also added that the police have raised awareness on educating bikers and cyclists about wearing helmets and safety jackets at night. "There will be zero tolerance against those who flout traffic rules," he underlined.
