The department of economic development in Ras Al Khaimah has processed up to 1,219 transactions online over March and April this year.
"This has made things easier for our customers, and given a significant boost to businesses in the emirate," said Dr Abdul Rahman Al Shayeb, director-general of the department.
The transactions processed remotely covered many services, he added. "These included new licences, renewals, amendments, cancellations, permits, reservations of a trade name, virtual dealer licences, and mobile vehicles."
The department spares no effort to meet its obligations towards the business community, while observing the ongoing preventive measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, he underlined.
"Earlier, the department had shut down its customer happiness centre, making all transactions online."
Most of the department staff are now working remotely, he said. "All our staffers have been well trained for this mission to ensure smooth and effective processing of all transactions."
Transactions are being processed through different channels, he pointed out. "These include the department website, e-mail, phone, WhatsApp, let alone media and news sites to update our customers on the latest procedures adopted."
Most of the 1,219 transactions processed online in March and April were "licence renewals" with 369 applications.
"These were followed by 168 requests for a 'To whom it may concern certificate', 138 commercial permits, along with many other amendments, reservations of a trade name, issuance of new licences and cancellation of old licences."
Mohammed Al Mahmoud, acting deputy director-general and director of Business Development Department, said his department has processed 28 e-requests as well.
"These included 20 transactions for issuing, renewing and cancelling Alghad Licence, along with four requests for issuing and renewing mobile vehicles, and one for a virtual dealer licence."
