30-year-old Indian worker Srinivas Salvala, who was recently repatriated back home after he was paralyzed expired late on Wednesday in Karimnagar area of Telangana. A critical accident had left him fully paralysed.
Prasad Sreedharan, a social worker from Ras Al Khaimah, told Khaleej Times on Thursday morning that Salvala suffered critical multiple cervical fractures after falling off his bicycle and seriously hitting a pothole. "The departed used to work as a survey labourer with the department of public works in Ras Al Khaimah when he had the terrible the accident off duty on October 28," he said.
Despite his critical condition, it was not possible to carry out the life-saving operation needed, first due to lack of equipment, which were secured later. Additionally, the worker didn't have sufficient health insurance coverage.
"What made things worse were the complications the patient underwent later, including bedsore and fever that paralysed him completely."
The young worker's relatives approached Sreedharan, who is based in Ras Al Khaimah, for help. When alerted about the case, the Consul-General of India in Dubai, Vipul chipped in and decided to arrange for his repatriation for further treatment.
Commenting on the sad news, Vipul said he was so sorry for his unfortunate demise. "His condition looked really bad. At least his family got to be with him."
Earlier, Vipul visited Salvala when he was still receiving treatment at the Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah last month. "The consulate provided the ticket to send him home on a stretcher."
The Consulate, in collaboration with the Indian Community Welfare Fund, also provided a return ticket for Ramesh Salvala, the victim's brother. "He accompanied him back home on an Air India flight from Dubai to Hyderabad recently."
Sandeep Vellaloor, the surveyor of the deceased told Khaleej Times that they were so sorry for their colleague. "He was a nice man and never came late for work. It is really a sorrowful and unexpected incident. He was confident that he will recover in a couple of months, and even asked me not to fill his place."
