The UAE amnesty programme, which ended on December 31, 2018, helped over 105,000 visa violators in Dubai to regularise their residency status or leave the country without paying fines.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai announced on Wednesday that it regularised the status of 13,843 violators during the UAE amnesty programme.
As part of the amnesty, GDRFA renewed 18,530 visas and issued 6,288 new visas.
A total of 35,549 jobseekers received 6-month temporary employment visa and 30,387 people were allowed to exit the country without having to pay fines.
Additionally, 1,212 individuals from war-torn countries were issued visas to stay in the country for one year.
Major General Mohammed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA, said legal action will be taken against violators after the six-month temporary employment visa deadline is over.
The authority will start carrying out routine and regular searches to track down violators.
He noted that the results reflect the great efforts of the department's staff and confirms the UAE's commitment towards dealing with humanitarian cases.
