A new cleanliness drive has been rolled out in Abu Dhabi, encouraging everyone to keep the Capital environment-friendly through proper waste disposal.
The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) on Wednesday launched the 'Abu Dhabi Deserves The Best' awareness campaign, which seeks to educate the public about proper waste disposal. It also highlights the laws and sanctions associated with environment protection.
Set to run until December 31, the campaign was rolled out in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) and the Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre.
The drive, which will cover residential and industrial areas, farms, and construction sites, will be conducted in three phases, officials said. The first phase involves awareness and leaflet distribution, while phase two includes inspections. On phase three, Tadweer plans to monitor offences and issue penalties to violators under the regulations applicable for each category.
Dr Salem Al Kaabi, acting general manager of Tadweer, said: "We aspire to create a sense of shared responsibility ... and instil eco-friendly waste management practices among the community."
Mohammed Al Dhehhi, acting project section head at Tadweer, said: "It's everyone's responsibility to keep the city clean, beautiful and eco-friendly by ensuring waste segregation using the recycle bins that have been distributed everywhere in the city." For biodegradable and bulky wastes, the public is advised to contact Tadweer.
The ADFCA, on the other hand, is taking charge of farms and the proper disposal of agricultural waste.
The drive also seeks to motivate construction firms to ensure the cleanliness of sites and the safe disposal of their waste.
