The cost of such treatments will be borne by the funds (Dh600,000) donated to Dohms by The Red Crescent Society (RCS) and Zakat Fund.
Speaking to Khaleej Times yesterday, Qadhi Murooshid, Director General of Dohms said: “Dohms will use the Dh600,000 to treat patients who cannot afford to pay for treatment in Dohms hospitals. Expats will be the beneficiaries of this fund because we charge the government for the treatment of locals,” explained Qadhi Murooshid.
The Director-General said that a separate account had been set up for this purpose, while a special committee had also been formed. “But before releasing the funds, the committee will investigate the case before deciding whether the patient really needs financial help,” said Qadhi adding that, at least all essential costs will be covered during the stay in any Dohms hospital.
During a meeting which was also attended by the Secretary General of Zakat Fund, Abdullah Al Muhairi and RCS Chairman in Dubai, Mohammed Al Zarooni, the Director-General of Dohms was presented a cheque of Dh600,000. “The gesture is a living example of social solidarity as it eases the burden of heavy costs of treatment which cannot be borne by destitute patients,” he added. He also explained that people needing funds would have to fill in a form and present it to the independent committee for verification.
