An Arab woman and a man jumped from the second and third floors to escape the blaze. They sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Khalifa hospital.
The rescue unit of Ajman Civil Defence managed to rescue a family of seven members who were stranded in the apartment engulfed with heavy smoke.
Lt Col Rayed Al Zaabi, deputy director of fire stations in Ajman, said that they received a call on Sunday night about the fire in the building, at the operations room. A fire fighting as well as a police team and national ambulance swung into action and reached the site immediately. The team managed to control the fire quickly and evacuated the tenants of the building.
He added that the fire was caused by a short circuit in a washing machine and spread to refrigerator kept in the corridor of the building. The fire fighters contained the blaze and ensured the safety of the site before handing it over to the fire experts to complete their investigation.
Zaabi urged the residents of the buildings not to store stuff randomly in the corridors and emergency exits, and to ensure the safety of electrical installations and electronic devices, while also following instructions in the implementation of evacuation plans for buildings in the event of a fire.
