Abu Dhabi Judicial Department issued figures showing that 1,598 marriages were recorded across Abu Dhabi during the first four months of 2017.
Officials said that 915 of the marriage contracts were signed in Abu Dhabi, 622 in Al Ain and 61 in Dhafra-Western region. Fifty-four per cent of these marriages were between Emirati couples while 26 per cent were expatriate couples. Fourteen per cent of the marriages were between Emiratis and expatriates.
The judicial department said that it has launched a delivery service using Aramex courier for marriage contracts of expatriates that were signed outside the department's headquarters in an effort to speed up work and to improve the quality of services provided to the customers.
Officials explained that the delivery of marriage contracts through Aramex is the first phase of their plan aimed at delivery of all marriage contracts at later stages, without the need to visit the headquarters.
The Department of Marriage Contracts said it provides guidance to new couples on the rules and principles of a healthy and peaceful family and also about the rights and obligations of the couple through various lectures.
The new couples are also taught about the basic things for a peaceful and happy marriage, including making a good choice for spouses, love and care for each other, patient and tolerance, each of the spouses fulfilling their duties and sharing home chores, understanding each other and learning how to manage and solve disputes.
Family counselors said couples have to be committed to their marriages and should understand and respect each other as this leads to a peaceful and happy marriage.
