A man trapped in a burning house in Fujairah was rescued by the emirate's civil defence team on Saturday.
The fire broke out in Badiya area and police were alerted to the incident at 12.20pm. Firefighters, patrols, and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site.
As soon as rescuers found the man inside the house, paramedics took over and administered first aid.
"He was fine and managed to escape the blaze unharmed," authorities said.
The fire gutted the house's bedroom and hallway, as thick black smoke filled all other areas, initial investigations showed. The civil defence team brought the fire under the control using special equipment.
"The case was handed over to entities concerned to determine the cause of the fire," sources said.
Civil defence authorities urged residents to ensure that fire detectors and alarm systems are installed in their homes. All appliances should also be kept in good condition.
"Using poor-quality electric devices, such as air-conditioners, fans, fridges, heaters, poses risks to a household's safety as these products can easily start a fire."
