Public prosecution records show that the 43-year-old man threatened to slit his wife's throat unless she left his house.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges of making criminal threats, physically assaulting and verbally abusing his wife when he appeared at the Court of First Instance. "These are all lies. It never happened," he claimed.
The incidents that took place on May 19 and April 26 were reported to Al Qusais police station.
The wife, a 31-year-old Iranian housewife, said that at 3am on May 19, and while at her marital house, she had a verbal brawl with her husband, following which he hit her with a cloth hanger all over her body.
She recounted to the prosecutor how he grabbed her by the neck, trying to strangle her. "My son stopped him and took him away from me."
She also complained that he insulted her.
"I went to my father's house after my husband kicked me out. My other son then called me to convey a message from my husband that I should not go back there or he would kill me."
She added that on April 26, the accused assaulted her and forced her and her sons out of his house. "He threatened that he would slit my throat if I did not leave the house."
The couple's 16-year-old son corroborated his mother's claims. He told the prosecutor his parents had been staying in separate rooms and that his mother left the house fearing for her life.
During public prosecution investigation, the defendant admitted he threatened to slit his wife's throat.
The trial has been adjourned to October 9.
