A worker was killed as he was working inside a 20-metre-deep sewerage project in Dubai's Jebel Ali. The police managed to rescue another worker from inside a pipe.
Lieutenant-Colonel Abdullah Bishwa, head of the police's land rescue department, said the police were notified about two workers falling into the hole. "Rescue officials rushed to the spot, donned special clothing to protect themselves from gas released from the hole and lowered stairs made of ropes inside," said the official.
The rescue officials found one of the workers alive and administered first-aid on him and rushed him to the hospital. The other worker was found dead.
