An Emirati man is standing trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at knife-point inside his car.
The court heard how the 30-year-old man threatened the woman, a Jordanian, with a knife to intimidate her into obeying him and having sex with him.
The incident took place on July 2 at Al Rashidiya police station.
The complainant, a 31-year-old, who works as a sales executive, said that the defendant, whom she previously met twice or thrice, called her on the incident day asking to see her for an important matter. "He said he would call me on his way from Abu Dhabi. However, when he reached our meeting venue (a shopping centre parking lot), he drove his car even though I told him to stay there to talk."
She recounted how on the way to Al Warqa, he spoke about his VIP contacts and how he could help her financially. "He later parked his car at a remote location where he began his sexual advances on me right after saying he wanted to marry me. When I resisted him, he hit my head against the seat and pulled me by the hair."
He struck her again against the seat when she tried to unlock the door. "He hurt my eye and as I yelled at him, he said that he was not convinced that I don't have personal relations with men," she recalled.
He then brandished a knife threatening to kill her if she did not do as he pleased. When he hurt her toe and saw her crying, he started to apologize and kissed her hand and head. He then took her mobile phone and deleted all their conversations.
During the public prosecution investigation, she said that she believed the defendant's plan was to rape her.
A policeman said he interrogated the complainant after midnight on July 6.
A medical report showed that the assault left the complainant with multiple bruises to the thighs, arms and abdomen and a swollen left eye. She has also been feeling pain all over her body.
The defendant will be sentenced on October 29.
