Social responsibility of police comes in myriad forms. Here in Dubai, two women were so lucky to have police in their side when families tried to spoil marriage of their choice.
Reem Al Amiri, Head of Victim Care Section, shared the humanitarian approach the Dubai Police have taken to bring smiles on two women who resisted their families' pressure to go ahead with their marriages.
Al Amiri, said that she received a call from a mother who sought police help to solve the issue of her daughter. The father did not want her to go ahead with the marriage as her fiancé, who was jailed for his was involvement in a dud cheque case. The daughter plunged into a depression as the father wanted her daughter to break up from him.
The police department contacted the man who told that he did the 'crime' for some emergency and wanted to marry the woman after paying the money. The police then convinced the father and allowed the man to go for medical check up. After three days, the woman tied the knot with the man in the presence of parents and jail officials.
The man returned to his detention and the woman went with her parents to home. Later he paid the amount and got release from the jail. The couples expressed the Dubai Police for helping them to lead a new life.
In the second incident, a mother refused her son to marry his lover as she was her elder daughter-in-law's sister. The mother did not want her two sons to marry from same family. However, Al Amiri contacted the mother and convinced her to allow her son to marry the woman of his choice. The police department advised her refusing the marriage will affect the family life of her elder son and that she must think of the happiness of her sons. The mother agreed and now both families are preparing for their marriage.
Al Ameeri added that she was so happy as the Dubai Police managed to help in strengthening family ties and solving disputes among family members.
He quoted top police officials like Lt-General Khamis Matter Al Mazeina and Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri who have said that Dubai Police are keen to solve family disputes as well as taking care of victims of crimes and accidents as part of its social responsibility.
