The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (Amaf) has contributed Dh500,000 to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) for paying out the outstanding dues of indigent patients.
The kind gesture is part of the Shifaa initiative that aims to support health facilities in providing treatment to patients with bad debts, according to Tayeb Al Rais, secretary general of Amaf.
"The move is also in line with the Year of Giving initiated by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan."
The Dh500,000 has been disbursed from Amaf's health endowment that allocated Dh1.35 million in 2017 for supporting the patients who cannot afford quality healthcare, he added.
"This is actually in line with the directives of the donors who wanted their money or part of the same to be pumped into this or that charity channel; we act as mediators."
Access to healthcare is the natural right of every individual, he said. "Our wise leadership's commitment to providing care and support to all social segments truly inspires institutions such as ours to lend a helping hand to the less privileged."
"These endowments ensure their support and the care of their affairs according to Shariah principles through a well-structured long-term plan, conscious vision and insight."
Recently, Amaf has contributed an amount of Dh400,000 to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment to help provide affordable housing solutions for the needy.
