The UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has sent a cable of condolences to the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, expressing sympathy for the victims of the flight that crashed off Jakarta.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, sent similar cables to the Indonesian leader.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation extended its sincere condolences to the “brotherly people of the Republic of Indonesia” following the Sriwijaya Air plane crash on Saturday.
The ministry also offered its condolences to the families of victims and underscored its solidarity with all those affected by the incident.
The Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 plunged into a steep dive about four minutes after it left Soekarno-Hatta international airport in Jakarta on Saturday afternoon. It crashed shortly after take off with 62 people on board.
Investigators have so far offered little to explain why the plane crashed about four minutes after takeoff from Jakarta, but said Sunday they had pinpointed the location of the black boxes.
