The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has closed down an Indian restaurant for violating hygiene conditions.
According to the authority, Anjappar Chettinad Restaurant in Al Khalidiya street of Abu Dhabi was ordered to close after it failed to follow health and safety code. ADFCA spokesperson Thamer Al Qasimi said the closure comes after inspectors issued several warnings on different visits.
The restaurant management still failed to make the necessary adjustments to raise the hygiene standards, which could have a negative impact on public health and safety. The restaurant will remain shut until the necessary adjustments are made, said Al Qasimi.
Some of the violations that led to the closure of the restaurant included unclean floors, ceilings and equipment, lack of maintenance of lighting fixtures and unclean refrigerators.
Al Qasimi said the management also failed to provide expiry dates on food served and left food uncovered for long periods of time. Violating pest-control conditions also led to spread of insects in the food preparation area, in addition to hiring untrained employees.
He stressed that the closure comes within the efforts of the food control inspection teams to achieve high food safety in Abu Dhabi. He added that inspectors visit all food establishments regularly to ensure their compliance with food safety requirements.
Al Qasimi called on the public to raise any violations to the authority through calling the toll free number 800555.
