The besieged children of Gaza get a helping hand from one of the leading hypermarket chains in the UAE to initiate into the world of education.
The UAE-based hypermarket giant LuLu Group has teamed up with Dubai Cares to adopt a school with more than 100 children in Gaza. The group will provide children aged 3-6 with access to care, education and early childcare development services.
A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed between Dubai Cares CEO Tariq Al Gurg and Salim MA, director of Lulu Group, at the Dubai Cares head office in Health Care City.
The project will see Dubai Cares involved in the upgrading and equipping of a pre-school, as well as assisting with literacy and teacher training for children aged 1-2 years.
Only a few children in Gaza have access to early childhood development programmes, with less than one third attending preschools.
By adopting the school, Lulu will be supporting more than 100 Palestinian children.
Salim MA said, "As part of our corporate social responsibility policy, we have set aside a substantial portion of our revenues for such noble causes and we will continue our endeavor to bring positive change to the lives of the disadvantaged globally," he added.
Tariq Al Gurg said: "We are again very grateful to Lulu Group for their ongoing support. The contribution of like-minded organiations such as Lulu is key to our global progress in eliminating poverty through education," he said.
