The Sharjah Police have rounded up "hooligan motorists" and confiscated their cars from residential areas across the emirate. The motorists created a ruckus in residential areas, especially at night, said the police.
According to the police, many residents complained that hooligans were disturbing the peace in their areas. Accordingly, the traffic department carried out inspections and rounded up the motorists.
Colonel Ahmed bin Darwish, acting Director of Traffic and Patrols, said the cars will remain in impoundment for 30 days. "The motorists have been fined Dh500. This is in accordance with Federal Traffic Law No. 36," he said.
If the engines of the impounded cars are found to modified, an additional Dh200 fine will be imposed. Some of the motorists were found driving recklessly and will be fined Dh2,000, said Col bin Darwish.
