The third edition of the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Competition kicked off on Sunday at the Scientific and Cultural Association in Al Mamzar, Dubai.
Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for cultural and humanitarian affairs and head of the DIHQA organising committee, said the 13-day global competition would run until November 16. Six contestants from Cameroon, Iraq, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Belgium participated on the opening day. "The competition has been named after Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak in recognition of her values and work worldwide, and the special attention she has given to Quran memorisers from across the globe."
The competition is supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, every year. "He is closely following up on the events lined up for this competition, and has given clear directives to provide all support to ensure its success."
Bu Melha said the third edition of the competition would be seeing the participation of 63 countries and Muslim communities from around the world. The contest is being aired on various TV channels and streamed online.
