The Capital got a taste of Thailand as the third edition Thai Festival opened at Yas Mall on Friday.
The Ambassador of Thailand to the UAE, Komate Kamalanavin, said the event is held every year in Abu Dhabi as the Capital earnestly promoted culture and tourism. Cultural performances, cooking demonstrations and ancient style Muay Thai show are among the highlights of the of two-day festival.
"This year, we are offering unique Thai local experiences," Kamalanavin said, referring to the concept of Thai floating market - the background settings for the festival.
"In the old days, most Thai people lived by the riverside. It also became means of transportation and trade, and with that, the floating market was born. We have set a mini floating market here where you can sample different cuisines prepared in some of the best restaurants in Abu Dhabi," he said, pointing to the restaurants and other stalls.
Thai chefs are also there to reveal secrets of their recipes - be it seafood or special menus.
In addition, the festival features Thai boxing sport of Muay Thai. The show will have athletes from Cobra Fitness display various techniques in the ring.
It was, however, the opening traditional dance performance that dazzled visitors at the mall.
Other activities include umbrella painting workshop and flower garland demonstration. Children took a special liking to Thailand's famous tuk-tuks or three-wheeled auto rickshaws. Children made beeline to get into the driver's seat and had a gala time.
Kamalanavin said all the splendid performances were just an appetizer and urged everyone to visit Thailand to discover the amazing country.
And with all these activities that run from 2pm to 10pm, the ambassador is hoping the festival will be as successful as the previous two editions.
