Five people sustained injuries in two traffic accidents in Ras Al Khaimah last Wednesday.
Major Tariq Mohammed Al Sharhan, head of the rescue and ambulance section of the RAK Police, said two people were injured after a pick-up vehicle crashed into a car that was wrongly parked in the middle of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
"The tyre of a car on the left lane of the road burst and its driver pulled over on the road shoulder to check it." Suddenly, another driver improperly stopped in the middle of the road and offered to help the first driver, he added.
"The driver of the pick-up vehicle was surprised with the car stopping in the middle of the road, and could not help crashing into it."
Both the drivers of the pick-up vehicle and the car sustained severe injuries, Major Sharhan said. "However, the driver of the car with burst tyre received no injuries. The driver of the pick-up vehicle was stuck in his car. The rescuers used a hydraulic cutter to rescue him."
Both the drivers were shifted to the nearest hospital, while the accident file was referred to the bodies concerned. The second accident took place in Al Jazirat Al Hamra, where three people were hurt. "This accident involved three cars, including one which turned turtle in the middle of the road," he said.
