The Ras Al Khaimah misdemeanour court heard a case in which an Asian expatriate posed as a photographer and siphoned off Dh3,000 for videotaping the wedding of the victim.
Official court records showed that the defendant, who is at large, persuaded the Pakistani victim that he was a professional photographer and could videotape his wedding using drones and the latest technology.
To set the deal, the plaintiff agreed to pay Dh3,000 to the fraudster as a deposit of the entire Dh17,000 charges.
Later, when the victim tried to reach the suspect for deciding the final preparations for his wedding, he was not to be found anywhere.
Having failed to communicate with the defendant who switched off his cell phone, the victim paid him a visit at the address of his studio displayed in his business card, but he shockingly found nothing there.
The Pakistani man approached the RAK police where he lodged a complaint stating that the defendant ran away with the Dh3,000 deposit.
The court, presided over by Chief Judge Yahya Al Qalla, has ordered the adjournment of the case to Sunday (November 26) for judgment.
