The government of Kerala has launched three health- related services, including an online medical facility for non-resident Keralites (NRKs), following the rise in number of Covid-19 cases across the globe.
A special travel subsidy for Malayalee students studying abroad has been launched as well. The programme was launched by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday, to help NRKs overcome their anxiety about the coronavirus, and seek medical opinions from leading doctors in Kerala through an online service.
The three services - 'Share your Covid concerns', 'Doctor Online', and 'Hello Doctor' were launched and can be availed on the Norka Roots website.
Non-residents can avail the services of doctors in the country through the video conference by registering on the Norka - https://www.norkaroots.org/web/guest/covid-services/
"The medical online facility will be available from 2 pm to 6 pm IST (12.30 pm to 4.30 pm UAE time) with acclaimed medical professionals belonging to various specialties. Video and audio facilities have been made available as well," said Vijayan. The specialties made available so far include general medicine and diabetology, general surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, Orthopaedics, ENT, and opthalmology.
The facilities can be availed on the Norka-Roots, the non-resident Keralite welfare body, website. Vijayan said Norka -Roots has opened five help desks in coordination with organisations abroad. He also encouraged Malayalees to seek help from the Indian Embassies abroad.
"Kerala students studying abroad will have to register with Roots-Norka website. They will be helped with travel subsidy, if needed," the Chief Minister said.
According to recent studies, over 2.5 million Keralites live abroad. Of which, 90 per cent work in the Middle East. Also, around two million Keralites, hold passports of other countries.
