Two cleaners have been jailed for three months for stealing a MacBook Pro worth Dh21,000 that was forgotten by a customer in the washroom of a Dubai supermarket.
An Emirati woman had forgotten her laptop after using the washroom in October. When she rushed back and didn't find the laptop, she called the police to report the theft. Investigations led to the arrest of the two Filipina female cleaners.
The defendants pleaded not guilty when they stood before the Dubai Court of First Instance earlier this month, claiming they just found the laptop on the floor.
The ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
