The Dubai Police have warned the public to be cautious while doing online purchases. To avoid being cheated, purchases should be made only from trusted trading sites, said a top police official.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation, issued the warning in the light of the arrest of three suspects who managed to cheat many people inside and outside the country.
Maj.-Gen. Al Mansouri said the suspects based in Dubai were operating a website, offering attractive deals for customers.
However, after receiving the money from the customers, the 'traders' failed to deliver the goods. The police received a number of complaints about the website and managed to locate the trio, who operated the website.
The police verified the complaints and made sure that the promotions and deals offered by the website were bogus.
The police raided the location of the suspects and arrested them. They confessed to cheating their customers by not delivering goods as offered on the website after receiving money.
All the three had been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution. He said that the police have already closed the website and officials are monitoring it to ensure that nobody else is using the website.
The police are currently monitoring all the websites that are selling goods, and especially those based in Dubai, said Maj.-Gen. Al Mansouri.
