Ajman and Sharjah municipalities have announced free parking has been announced today (Wednesday) starting 4 pm.
In Sharjah, Police have said that they closed down the street leading to Wadi Al Hellow to ensure safety of the motorists.
Col. Abdulrahman Al Shawaf, Director of patrol and traffic at Sharjah Police said that they have not recorded any serious accident.
There was massive traffic congestion on Khalifa road towards Dubai, Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road from Sharjah towards Al Dhaid.
He added that the police prepared well to face any emergency due to the rain by increasing patrols to keep a check on traffic movement and tow away defaulted vehicles.
Police officials in Ajman said that they deployed more than 33 patrols in crowded areas and areas affected by water logging.
Police is on stand by for any emergency due to the bad weather.
Riyad Al Aillan, Director General of Sharjah Municipality said that that two rain emergency committees were formed to meet the challenges of rain. It divided the city of Sharjah into four sectors. Each sector has been given enough workers, equipment, pumps, engines and water tanks.
Sharjah is also coordinating with the police and Public Works Department to set up and monitor traffic diversions and other issues related to ongoing road construction projects.
He urged the public to call the municipality's emergency number 993 to complain about any rain-related problem or call 06-5651071 direct numbers of operations room of the municipality.
In Ajman, Yahiya Al Reyaysa, Deputy Director of Ajman Municipality, said road construction projects and new intersections which had replaced a number of roundabouts have helped in enhancing the drainage system in the emirate
An advanced drainage system has been implemented in, Khalifa Road and other parts of the emirate to tackle the problems caused by rains.
Al Reyaysa pointed out that the engineers and workers had already fixed the problems in the areas in which pools of stagnant water remained for long periods last year.
He said that Staff from the municipality's Emergency Section was assigned to patrol various areas in the emirate to allow prompt intervention for fixing probable defects on roads and streets in residential areas. He added, "The staff is also prepared to respond to public appeals for assistance during such emergency during rains."
Civil defense officials step in
The civil defense of both emirates have urged public to stay away from driving near valleys.
Abdulla Al Suwaidi, director general of Sharjah Municipality said that they have been on alert since the beginning of the rain and there is no major accidents so far.
Ali Salih Al Matroushi, Director General of Ajman Municipality said that they are on stand by and prepared to face any emergency such as collapsing of roofs.
