As many as 120,000 advanced surveillance cameras have been installed till now in 3,000 buildings by the Ajman Police across the emirate as part of its project - 'To Protect You' - to enhance security and public safety across the emirate.
Lt Col Mohammad bin Yafur Al Ghafli, deputy director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Ajman Police, said that since the launch of the project in 2017, the Ajman Police have stepped up its survey and intensified field visits to follow up the installation of surveillance cameras in residential buildings, shops, hotels and other facilities. A total of 120,000 CCTV cameras have been fixed up to secure more than 3,000 buildings in the emirate, he added.
He said the project was implemented by Ajman in accordance with prescribed specifications and requirements. The police supervise the installation carried out by the approved companies to ensure that the rules are not violated, Al Ghafli pointed out.
He underlined that the project has hugely contributed to reducing thefts and crimes as the CCTV cameras act as a strong deterrent against crime and enhances the sense of safety among residents.
Major General Sultan Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of Ajman Police, said the project is being carried out based on a decision issued in June 2016 by the Ajman Executive Council that ordered installation of CCTV cameras on all premises as well as halls and centres where events are organised. The Ajman Police held meetings with owners of buildings, as well as municipality officials regarding the decision and rolled out the project.
He added that CCTV cameras are being installed in all buildings, both old and new. "The police monitor installation by approved companies to ensure high quality cameras are used, which have been bought from an outlet okayed by the department after ensuring that they meet certain spelt-out standards and conditions."
