A 35-year-old Ethiopian housemaid committed suicide here in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
Police sources told Khaleej Times that the domestic helper was working with an Emirati family when she ended her life.
"The victim hanged herself to death using a scarf which she tied to a piece of iron in the ceiling of her room at the house of her local employer."
The central operations room of the RAK Police, having been alerted of the mishap, immediately dispatched a police patrol, an ambulance, and paramedics to the site in a record time, but the victim was already dead.
The police initiated investigations to identify the reasons behind the woman's death. "The victim has joined service with the Emirati family for only a month," the sources added.
The employer told the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) men that the deceased, who was married, used to have so many problems with her family back home in Ethiopia.
"She was mainly having issues with her brother to whom she used to send part of her savings to spend on her children, but he never did, and that was the main reason behind their disputes."
The police sources said that the domestic helper tried to committee suicide twice before, but she could not make it as the Emirati family was there for help and managed to rescue her life.
"In the first time, she tried to get herself electrocuted to death using a pair of scissors she plugged into an electric socket in her room, but she failed."
She later tried to do the same and end her life in the bathroom, but she could not do it for the second time, they explained.
"However, she finally managed to hang herself to death in her room using her own scarf," the police sources said, denying any criminal grounds behind the tragic incident.
The case file was referred to the bodies concerned for legal procedures as due whereas the corpse of the deceased was referred to the morgue of the hospital for burial procedures.
In 2014, the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah saw two suicide attempts in November and December, the first of which succeeded while the second failed.
In the first, an Asian housemaid narrowly escaped death after she gulped down a poisonous cleaning liquid in an attempt to commit suicide at her sponsor's home while, in the second, a 28-year-old Asian housemaid hanged herself to death in her room at the house of her sponsor in Shaam area, north of RAK.
