A real estate dealer accused of attempting to rape a woman when she allegedly invited him to her place to move old furniture, claims the complainant made false accusations against him to avoid paying the money she owed him.
The Arab man is on trial at the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance.
Official court documents stated that the Arab woman complained to authorities after the man went to her apartment and tried to rape her.
Prosecutors said the woman, who was alone in the house, had screamed for help when the man tried to force her into having sex with him.
Officers charged the man with attempted rape. He denied the charge when he appeared in the court, saying that he had been framed by the woman.
The man said the woman was his friend and that they had met while he helped find her an apartment.
The man said that after becoming friends, the woman told her that she wanted to start an advertising company and that she needed financial help from him so that she can register the company and obtain the necessary documents and permit to run the company.
The Arab man told the court that through mutual understanding, he lent Dh100,000 to the woman to set up her business and she also signed papers showing that she received the money.
She, however, didn't pay back his money.
And on the day of the incident, the realtor said the woman phoned him saying that he should come to her apartment and help her move out the old furniture from the house.
He said when he entered the house after being allowed in by the woman, he found her naked.
"I was shocked when she started screaming and calling people for help saying that I was raping her," said the man.
"I am innocent and I have never done anything to her. I didn't even touch her. She just made false accusations against me so she can avoid paying back my money."
The trial was adjourned until January 31.
