A 27-year-old Emirati man has been sentenced to five years in prison on the charge of providing a compatriot with a heroin injection.
According to prosecution records, the friend died due to a heroin overdose.
The unemployed man has also been ordered by the Court of First Instance to pay a Dh20,000 fine. He has been on trial charged with supplying others with drugs.
The incident allegedly took place on December 20 in the deceased's house in Al Qusais.
The defendant was arrested after his DNA traces were found on one drug injection in the house of the deceased. The DNA of another unknown person was also found on the same injection.
Another shot was seized from the crime scene. However, DNA traces lifted from it did not match those of the accused, as per the crime lab's report.
The verdict has been appealed.
