Up to 1,715,000 gallons of rainwater was drained off the roads and roundabouts by the 549-member emergency teams of the department of public works in Ras Al Khaimah.
The teams have also attended to 240 emergency reports as heavy rains lashed the region. "Emergency reports about flooded roundabouts, as well as damaged roads have been dealt with," said Issa Al Shamsi, head of the emergency committee at the department.
"Reports on uprooted trees, broken poles, landslides, and non-functioning traffic lights are also being handled efficiently." Six landslides reported on the Al Dheit internal roads were also taken care of by the teams.
Heavy showers have mostly hit areas like Al Dheit, Khat, Al Qussaidat, and Khuzam, he pointed out.
"The teams are attending to problems in other areas - including Al Heel, Al Fahleen, Suhaila, Al Daqdaqa, Al Rifaa, and Julphar - as well."
Al Shamsi said that the emergency room is accessible round the clock on toll free number 8008118.
The department has deployed up to 49 tankers which have so far completed 340 trips, he said.
