An Emirati teenager and two Asian residents were killed in two separate traffic accidents in Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday.
According to a senior officer with the Ras Al Khaimah Police, the 15-year-old Emirati, identified only as Z.R.H., was driving the car at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle.
"The vehicle driven by the unlicensed driver veered off the road and rammed into a lamp post at 2.35pm," stated Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, Director-General of the Central Operations Room, RAK Police.
The shattered car caught fire with the motorist inside it, he added. Though the paramedics arrived in record time, the victim died on the spot. "The body was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for burial by relatives while the accident file was referred to the traffic prosecution for due legal action."
In another accident, two Asians were killed while three others sustained grave injuries, the official said.
Initial investigation showed that the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. "The car fell down into a deep valley and some passengers were thrown out of the vehicle as the car was falling down."
The central operations room, alerted of the mishap, dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in record time, Brig Humaidi said.
"Unfortunately, two passengers, aged 20 and 30, breathed their last before the paramedics reached the site whereas three others were seriously injured."
The bodies were shifted to the morgue of Fujairah Hospital while the injured passengers were rushed to the intensive care unit.
Brig Humaidi urged all motorists to be attentive on the road and observe traffic rules, mainly the speed limit for road users' safety and their own. "Parents are also highly advised to watch their kids and never let them drive any car without being licensed."
