Ras Al Khaimah — The Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ) road in Ras Al Khaimah will get an additional lane in each direction to ease the heavy traffic flow the road witnesses all day long.

According to a senior official, the Ministry of Public Works will soon invite tenders for the job. “The project is part of the ministry’s projects to boost the capacity of federal roads in line with international standards.”

A new lane, he said, will be built in each direction from the Etihad roundabout. “This 6km stretch is the only two-lane stretch on the road that extends from RAK to Abu Dhabi.”

The ongoing repair works on the road that connects all seven emirates of the country will soon be completed, he noted. “The development and repair works along a distance of 44km of the road from RAK to Umm Al Quwain have almost been completed.”

There is still a road diversion of 2.5km that will be completed by the beginning of next April, he stated. “The repair work includes the pavement of the third lane, along with a precautionary maintenance for the other two lanes.”
