The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Sharjah has opened two new roads costing Dh11.6 million at the Tahil and Wishah areas to the east of the emirate.
A senior official on Sunday said the first road, costing Dh9 million, leads to the government accommodation at Tahil area while the second road, built at a cost of Dh2.6 million, leads to the government accommodation at Wishah area.
Suleiman Al Hajiri, Director-General RTA Sharjah for roads affairs, said the mega infrastructure projects are in pursuance with the directions of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
“The new roads will give a boost to the infrastructure of the emirate and ease traffic flow.”
Explaining, he said the Tahil road is a two-lane route. “The one-direction road connects the Tahil area with the Rafiaa-Zubair road which is connected with the bypass road via the Zubair tunnel and Sharjah-Dhaid road at intersection No10.”
The 7.3m wide road is 7.1km long, he added. “The road is equipped with 2.5m wide gravel head shoulders at both sides, apart from lighting and underground and crossing pipes for future services.”
The Tahil road has been supported with all the facilities, traffic safety requirements, and signboards along the road to ease traffic flow, he stated.
Hajiri said the Wishah road is a two-lane route. “The one-direction road connects the Wishah area with the Dhaid-Madam road via the Wishah tunnel.”
The 7.3m wide road is 1.9km long, he added. “The road is equipped with 2.5m-wide gravel head shoulders at both sides, apart from lighting and underground and crossing pipes for future services.”
The Tahil road has also been supported with all the facilities, traffic safety requirements, and signboards along the road to ease traffic flow, he stated. “The road was fully opened last week.”
Hajiri said these projects are designed to accommodate current and future needs of urban expansion in the region, enhance traffic flow, and raise the standard of living of residents therein.
“RTA Sharjah is dedicated to improve the quality of roads to cope with the underway plans for urban development and economic and tourism, as well as the steady increase of population and the movement of transport.”
